“Achievements Shaming” on LinkedIn is not OK.

What fascinates me the most these days is the plethora of learning opportunities accessible online. What’s more amazing is seeing people lead career transitions and collaborate to break into fields they were told they do not belong to. (Dear Womxn in #STEM, you got it!)

However, it’s also disappointing seeing LinkedIn content creators take others’ (not so small) wins as a case study for laziness and “unsuccessful digital portfolio strategy”.

Shaming such initiatives because they do not qualify to your expectations and understanding of “success”, does not benefit anyone on this platform. Instead, ask yourself: ➡️

• “Am I proud of what I’m going to say in a comment or post?
• How does this sound when I read it aloud?
• Does this show that I am a credible professional?
• How am I adding value to the discussion?”

Remember,

Even if they make it look easy, the journey of professional development is bumpy and not so accessible. Self-motivation and fighting imposter syndrome represent another journey to conquer, so please don’t add any additional trauma and focus on your own #growth instead.

As someone who assisted in hiring panels in governmental and private environments, it’s always impressive witnessing someone’s persistence and passion in leveraging such under-values skills to become a better leader, team member, and lifelong learner.

I would always choose a lifelong learner over a stagnant cyberbully.

So, if you are following a LinkedIn bully, here are ways that made a difference for me: ➡️

• Draw their attention to their actions that qualify as cyber-bullying, shaming, and verbal harassment. If they were not responsive, you can report their post. Do not drain your energy with useless arguments.

• Unfollow bullies and connect to people who positively nurture your journey and empower you throughout your journey.

  • Be mindful about your words and do not fight cyber-bullying by being a bully yourself. Take a step back and understand your feeling while reflecting on your values.
